A development application has been lodged for a new school building for Magnolia Science Academy, located at 16600 Vanowen Street, Los Angeles.
Designed by Berliner Architects, the proposal outlines the development of a large two-storey school building, including a gym facility, with a maximum height of 33 feet. The site is located within an established residential area.
Existing structures will be modified or removed to accommodate the new campus as part of the redevelopment. The proposal includes measures to minimize impacts on the surrounding neighborhood, such as acoustic mitigation, landscaped screening, and appropriate setbacks. The completed campus will serve approximately 564 students from grades 6 through 12.

The proposed school will provide 91 car parking spaces, along with a total of 117 bicycle parking spaces, including 108 short-term bicycle spots. All vehicle and pedestrian access will be via Vanowen Street.
Planners from Rabuild Commercial Services state, “The building has been designed to provide a bulk and scale that is compatible with the surrounding residential area, with a significant portion of the lower level substantially cut into the allotment.”
The proposal includes a total building area of 49,270 GSF, with an overall site area of 108,938.3 square feet (approximately 2.5 acres).
