Disney theme park chairman Josh D’Amaro unveiled a groundbreaking plan for Disneyland’s expansion in Anaheim, California. Armed with $60 billion investment over the next decade, Disney is eyeing approval for the transformative DisneylandForward project, aiming to redefine the park’s landscape with new attractions, shops, and dining experiences. Investment and Job Creation: A Boon for California’s Economy
Disney’s ambitious endeavour isn’t just about entertainment; it’s a powerhouse for the economy. According to a Disney-sponsored study, each $1 billion invested is projected to generate over 4,000 jobs and a staggering $1.1 billion in economic output during the construction phase. Post-construction, the project is expected to contribute $253 million annually and sustain 2,292 jobs, injecting vitality into California’s economic fabric.

Immersive Experiences: Iconic Franchises Coming to Life
The DisneylandForward project isn’t short on vision. Drawing inspiration from cultural juggernauts like Frozen, Black Panther, Coco, Zootopia, Tangled, Tron, Peter Pan, Toy Story, and Avatar, the expansion promises to bring these beloved stories to life in a way that only Disney can. This could be the best thing ever for the people of California.

Key Milestone in the Journey: Environmental Impact Report
Disneyland’s enchantment isn’t just limited to its attractions; it extends to environmental responsibility. The city of Anaheim’s 17,000-page Environmental Impact Report meticulously analyzes potential effects on air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, noise, transportation, and neighborhood aesthetics.

Understanding the environmental impact, DisneylandForward incorporates mitigation measures. Sound barriers, restricted fireworks, and adherence to guidelines on ride locations and heights are part of Disney’s conscientious approach to minimize the expansion’s ecological footprint.

Transportation Innovation
Disney is not just expanding horizontally; it’s thinking vertically. Pedestrian bridges over Disneyland Drive and Harbor Boulevard, coupled with the exploration of alternative ride systems like the Disney Skyliner and PeopleMover, underscore Disney’s commitment to creating a seamless, futuristic guest experience.

Zoning Restrictions
To accommodate this grand vision, Disney is seeking flexibility in Anaheim’s zoning restrictions set in 1994. The expansion, dubbed DisneylandForward, would be located throughout the Downtown Disney area as well as on the Toy Story, Lilo and Stitch parking lots and winding between the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel. Disney hopes to receive approval before the end of 2024.
